ANGEL CORIA
About Angel Fabian Coria
Originally from the city of Benavidez in the province of Buenos Aires, Angel Coria had his first encounter with the art and dance at the early age of seven, in Benavidez's "Sociedad de Formento y Cultura RICARDO GUIRALDES".
Angel began his professional career in 1985 when he joined the group "Ballet de la Plata", the winner of the COSQUIN competition of that year. An year later was invited to join the dance group of the Univesity of Belgrano under the artistic direction of Mrs. Norma Viola, who supported his debut. Later he joined the "Ballet Popular Argentino" under the direction of Santiago Ayala ("El Chucaro") and Norma Viola. At the same time was offered to join the cast of the National School of Dance MARIA RUANOVA as guest dancer.
From 1990 Angel worked with the Ballet Nacional Argentino where he held the position of assistant director/ substitute choreographer. At the same time he directed and produced the choreography for a television program intitled "El Gran Debut por ATC".
In 1995 Angel joined the company of Mariano Mores with whom he produced many shows presented nationally and internationally.
In 1996 Angel travelled to Japan with the group of Jose Colangelo.
In 1997 Angel Joined the company of Juan Carlos Copes for the production of "Entre Borges y Piazzolla" under the direction of Manuel Gonzales Gil and the general production of ARTEAR Argentina. This work was awarded with " 5 estrellas de mar". In the same year(1997) he participated in the production of the movie "Tango" where he held the position of dancer and assistant director for choreography, under the general direction of the Spanish filmmaker, Carlos Saura.
In 1998, Angel travelled to China directing and choreographing the show "Buenos Aires Bohemia" which ran for an entire six months period in Shanghai. Upon his return from China he was invited to join again the company of Juan Carlos Copes until the year 2002. With this company he toured extensivelly nationally and internationally.
In 2003 Angel returned to Japan with the company of Osvaldo Berlingieri.
In Buenos Aires, Angel worked in most prestigious shows such as "Noche Portena" and in theatres such as "Viejo Almacen" (where he also held the position of artistic director and choreographer), "Senor Tango", "Miguelangelo", "La Ventana", "Sabor a Tango".
Concomitant with his performing career, Angel Coria carried on a teaching career,offering programs in the country's interior, as well as in Buenos Aires. For the years 1990, 1997 and 2001 he held the summer courses at the Teatro Colon. Angel was also part of the teaching body for the National University Insitute of Art (I.U.N.A.). He offered classes at the University of Tango and, since 2002 to present, has been offering tango instruction at the Escuela Argentina de Tango (E.A.T.).
Beginning with 2003 Angel acted as jury member during the Metropolitan and World Tango Championships, held yearly in Buenos Aires.
